Energy assessments
ASHRAE Level 1 and Level 2 energy audits by Professional Engineers, Certified Energy Managers, and Certified Energy Auditors. The foundation for improving your building and the required step for most compliance pathways.
City of Denver and Efficiency Works rebates for ASHRAE Level 2 assessments are still available. Building Decarbonization Enterprise funding for state-covered buildings is coming soon.
Why do I need an energy assessment?
Energy assessments provide the foundation for improving the performance of a commercial building. They help owners avoid ordinance penalties, improve occupant comfort, reduce energy use, and extend equipment life. We conduct both Level 1 and Level 2 assessments, and Level 2 is required for many building performance compliance pathways.
ASHRAE Level 1
A Level 1 audit is a high-level walk-through designed to spot the obvious energy efficiency opportunities. It includes staff interviews and a review of utility data to understand how the building operates.
For some properties this is enough to identify the next steps for reducing energy use and meeting ordinance requirements. It is also the starting point for the more detailed Level 2 assessment.
ASHRAE Level 2
Our Professional Engineers perform ASHRAE Standard 211-2018 Level 2 energy assessments. They meet both the Level 2 and Level 2+ requirements for the Energize Denver program and include investment-grade analysis, project cost estimates, life-cycle cost analysis for each energy efficiency measure, and projected EUI savings.
When an assessment is required
Assessments are a required component of many compliance pathways, not just a way to find savings. Level 2 assessments are specifically required for timeline extensions, unique building target adjustments, standard target adjustments, and corrective action plans under Energize Denver, and for most target and timeline adjustments under Building Performance Colorado. See compliance plans.
Energize Denver rebates
Buildings regulated by Energize Denver at 25,000 sq ft and larger can receive rebates for ASHRAE Level 2 assessments:
